Jean Martens
Jean Martens , 79, went to be with her Lord on November 11, 2007 at Hospice House in
Hutchinson,
Kansas. She was born on October 20, 1928 and was a lifetime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was a homemaker,
the mother of two children, her daughter Cass (Martens) Hartle, son Scott, and was married to O.J. for 61 years. She was a
charter member of Union Valley
Bible Church. She also hosted
a community bible study and prayer group in her home for thirty years.
Jean excelled in English and Western Pleasure during the 1970’s and 80’s.
O.J. would break the horses and Jean would train them. When she stopped riding, she continued working with O.J. fitting and
showing halter horses. O.J. says it was Jean’s soft hands that put the finishing touch on all the world champions they
trained.
Jean loved the Appaloosa breed and spent six decades contributing to it in many ways.
A major highlight in her life was when
O.J. was inducted in to the Appaloosa Hall of Fame.
Jean was a one of a kind lady. People who knew Jean, admired, respected and loved her.
She impacted the world with a soft voice and humble spirit that only a few have ever had. She is sorely missed by all who
had the privilege of knowing her.
